Practical Tips for the Perfect Wedding

- Practice wearing your wedding shoes for a few days before the big day. Its also a smart idea to put non-skid pads on the bottoms of high-heeled shoes as well.

- Remember to allow time for alterations and cleaning if the gown youll be wearing is an heirloom that may need freshening up before wearing.

- It is critical to get a good, full night of sleep before your wedding day. With all of the stress, nerves and general excitement of the day its easy for a bride to be worn out before the celebration is half over.

- If your maid-of-honor hasnt done so already, pack a small bag to keep handy in your dressing area for emergencies. The bag could contain items such as safety pins, a needle and thread, hairspray, aspirin, nail polish, extra pantyhose and breath mints, among other things.

- As a token of your appreciation, select a special gift for your parents or in-laws-to-be to express your thanks and gratitude. This can be presented to them on the morning of the wedding.

- Arrange to have a romantic, heartfelt note hand-delivered to your fianc just before the ceremony begins.

- Find a pretty handkerchief to tuck into your bouquet so that its easily accessible for the many sentimental moments youll have.

- If your ceremony involves candles, be sure to assign someone the task of lighting them at the proper time.

- If your ceremony is being held outdoors, be sure to plan ahead for weather related mishaps or emergencies. A supply of pretty umbrellas nearby can really save the day if rain is in the forecast.

- Another handy item to have in stock for outdoor weddings, particularly those that are held in the summer months, is bottled water. Guests and members of the wedding party will certainly appreciate your thoughtfulness at the sight of chilled water, especially after standing around in formal wear in the sun.

- Ask your bridal party to assemble quickly for pictures so as not to keep your wedding guests waiting too long for your much-anticipated arrival.

- Take the time to eat a light snack on your way to the reception as brides rarely get the chance to eat at their own weddings!

- Remember to place a guest book at the entrance to your reception. Years later, youll be able to look back at who attended your wedding and what special words of love and wisdom they may have written in your register.

- Ask your florist for table hooks so that you and your bridesmaids can use your bouquets as reception decorations. Wedding bouquets can often be heavy so its likely the bridesmaids will welcome having a safe place to keep their flowers while theyre busy at the reception.

- Leave your honeymoon itinerary as well as where youll be staying, along with contact numbers, with a trusted family member in case of emergencies.

- Dont put off the task of having your gown cleaned, too, long after the wedding is over. Stains that may not be visible now can turn yellow after time and be difficult to remove. Gowns and veils should also be stored in a cool, dry place and carefully wrapped.
